Zoi Chisholm

Zoi has been practicing yoga in 1995.  She worked for Capability Scotland enabling adults and children with physical and learning disabilities until 2000 when she stopped work to raise her young family. Zoi qualified from Chi Yoga School Scotland in August 2005, and continues her yoga studies in Integral Hatha Yoga under the guidance of her guru Sonia Sumar, founder of Yoga for the Special Child, LLC, graduating as a Integral Hatha Yoga teacher in August 2009. She also has a Radiant Child Yoga Programme certification.

For Zoi, she recognises her life's work in her children and for all who have special needs. She was blessed to find out about the work Jo Manual was doing in London in The Special Yoga Centre and inspired by Jo to make Yoga genuinely available to all in Scotland.  She was instrumental in setting up the charity Yoga Health and Therapy Centre in Scotland for promoting yoga to children and adults with special needs in 2007 which sadly closed in June 2009 due to lack of funding for its work.  Zoi together with Caroline Forbes (Sing and Sign) opened Perth Yoga Space in August 2009 to continue offering Yoga and Sing and Sign in Perth and Dundee.  Zoi also teaches Yoga for people with sight impairments at P & K Society for the Blind, New Row, Perth.  Please call the Blind Society 01738 626969 to join the class if you are registered blind or if you are a carer of children or adults with visual impairments.

Katherine Farmer

Sing & Sign

Katherine has been involved in Sing & Sign for over 5 years, having signed with both of her children from 6 months of age.  Developed with the help of speech and language therapists, Sing & Sign is the UK’s longest running, award winning and much loved baby signing programme.  Signing with your baby through music and songs encourages great early communication before speech.  “Seeing your baby’s first signing attempts is such an exciting and rewarding experience for you, your baby and indeed the whole family.  I hope you’ll join us in experiencing it too!”

Lynn Almond (Tai Chi) started practicing Tai Chi in 1998 and have been learning bare-hand and weapons forms from then.  Her first teacher was Iain Naylor of the Hands of Light School. She has attended Tai Chi Caledonia for most years and is familiar with the Rainbow Fan Form, the Traditional Yang sword form and various Chi Kung sets and forms.  Since 2001 Lynn has been studying regularly the Traditional Yang long form with Shelagh Grandpierre based in Nottingham, and goes to the occasional UK workshops taught by her master, Christopher Pei, the President of the United States Wushu Academy.

Her other love at present is horse riding, which she started in 2006, and in that year was able to attend a workshop “Tai Chi for Equestrians”, taught by James Shaw, an internationally known riding coach.

I have also recently been on two study trips to China.

Lynn has been teaching Tai Chi since 2001 when she took over Iain’s Perth class.  Recently, she has taken over another of his classes in Dundee.  She teaches Yang Style forms - a Short Form and the 24 Step Form.

Culturefrog

Jenny Clark and Stéphane Rival

Jenny is from Scotland and Stéphane is French.  As parents of a bilingual child, speaking only their respective languages, they soon realised that transmitting languages was more about stories, songs and games rather than learning by rote. An idea for sharing this began to take form and two years later they moved to Scotland and Culturefrog came into existence.

Both members of Disclosure Scotland's PVG Scheme, they developed First Steps in French for very young children (0 - 5 years) and their families.  This is a perfect age to start playing with another language, Stéphane only speaks in French and children quickly assimilate this and make the language connection.  Culturefrog's sessions have enabled Jenny and Stéphane to channel and develop their passions for learning through creative play, crafting, singing and storytelling.
